And Now For Something Different - Puppy Cake Smash!

Okay so I fully realise that the photos you are about to see might just convince you I have completely lost my marbles...

So a little background - my dear friend Jillian and I just happened to get puppies on the exact same day. It wasn't planned, complete coincidence! Given that Jillian and I have been friends and worked together for many years, we knew our puppies would have no choice but to become good friends too. My husband and I welcomed Leon the Rough Collie into our home, and it wasn't long before Jillian and her partner introduced us to Lady the Springer Spaniel.

As a lot of people know, puppies are great fun but a lot of hard work. I can only imagine it's similar to having children in the sense that you are up around the clock for feeding, playing, toilet training plus handling things like the chewing phase, socialising and separation anxiety, and making sure your cats are adjusting too. You also start to question your own judgement a lot, and fitting everything in your life around a fast-growing teething poop machine is a big adjustment. It was so amazing to have a friend on the exact same page when dealing with every puppy stage, to swap tips and advice with, and of course to have fun walks with! It's been so much fun watching them grow up together, they really are the best of friends.

Now since Jillian and I are a little bit bonkers, we decided we couldn't let their first birthdays go by without some kind of fanfare, especially not when they were born within a day of each other! We threw around some ideas and joked "If babies can have cake smash photoshoots for their first birthdays, so can our dogs!". Before we could stop laughing, Jillian was researching dog-friendly cake recipes and I was hunting down bunting and banners...

So here you go - our joint 1st birthday dog cake smash photoshoot! We laughed so much, and the dogs were naturally pleased at getting their snouts and paws on a cake made from yogurt, peanut butter and sweet potato. Oh, and just because a few people have asked if this is something I'm going to be adding to my photography services, I'm afraid not. This was just a one-off for our pups but I do know some amazing pet photography specialists so please do get in touch for recommendations :)
