I had the most amazing time photographing this perfect wedding back in February. From the minute I met Barry & Sandy, I felt we just clicked right away! From our first meeting I knew they were looking to have a fun-filled, relaxed day which is right up my street, and I loved seeing their plans come together in the run-up to the wedding.
What impressed me most was their willingness to create some beautiful couples' shots, even though it would mean braving the February weather. From the very start, they were both keen to share ideas and take suggestions on making the most of our opportunities, and the location. I was determined to take a more urban approach with their wedding, and to try some evening outdoor shots with the city lights in the background.
It's always exciting to work at a new venue, and The Quay at City Quay is relatively new having opened around a year ago. Lots of windows made it a photographers dream, and really helped us avoid going outside in the freezing cold February weather to get good light. Also, props to the guys for choosing the right date, since this was just before the Beast from the East storm hit us!
This wedding was quite emotional which took me by surprise since Barry & Sandy had a civil ceremony a few years ago, so I figured they'd be super chilled about things this time around - however both of them were very nervous! Once they were stood side-by-side they seemed to draw strength from each other, and sailed through a very touching and emotional ceremony. It really was an honour to be there.
Since we were treated to amazing weather we decided to roam around City Quay for some couples shots. Barry & Sandy were an absolute joy to photograph, great at just looking good together! Just before we said goodbye, the couple played "Mr & Mr" on the dancefloor - I was laughing so much, tears were streaming down my face! What a fantastic day, set an extremely high bar for the rest of this year that's for sure!
To Barry & Sandy - Thanks for having us, 10/10! Also big thanks to my awesome 2nd photographer Christina Quinn <3
